A bit of this, a bit of that – these things made me laugh out loud, cry, beg to share, or all three at once.
When Scientists Turn Artist (things often get extremely weird)
Man it feels good 2 B a lichen – Rap meets lichenology
Thriller with Mosquito Nets and Wellies – I spent many summers at Toolik Lake Field Station on the north slope of Alaska. We had to make our own fun. So this “northernmost tribute to Michael Jackson” is one of my favorite videos of all time:
Bad Project Video: Alzheimer’s researchers apparently have over-the-top creativity and senses of humor. Lab scientists often seem dry to us field types, but these people have won my everlasting appreciation (scientists can be just SO weirdly funny). I think Lady Gaga must love this too:
Interesting Writing
Burning Down the House – When Andi O’Conor’s house burned to nothing in the 4 Mile Canyon Fire of 2010, she was left with her dog, her car, and whatever clothing she had taken on her vacation. It was deja vu for Andi – her family home burned down when she was 12 – while she was at a friend’s slumber party. She began writing a series of emails to a Boulder women’s media email list about her experiences. Her words were so powerful that the list members encouraged her to share them with the rest of the world. Her writing is a powerful reminder that loss can be a strange bedfellow to grace and understanding.
